Interfacial material

A fully dense polyerystalline material such as a metal, alloy, ceramic or semiconductor with crystal sizes less than 100 nm. These materials have large volume fractions of interfaces (i.e., grain boundaries or phase boundaries) and, therefore, their properties quite different from those observed for their amorphous or conventional polycrystalline counterparts.
